Description Title: Campus Safety Officer Department: Campus
Safety Employment Status: Full-Time FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Hourly
Organizational Relationship: Campus Safety Supervisor Schedule: 40
hours per week. Eligible for overtime assignments. Job Purpose:
Campus Safety Officers foster and maintain a safe and secure
environment for the Wagner College community. Campus Safety
Officers report directly to Supervisors and do not manage staff.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential Functions: Respond to all calls
for service, which include incidents in progress, fire alarms,
medical and aided cases, and render aid as needed. Conduct
preliminary investigations of incidents and complete written
incident reports. Perform foot and vehicle patrols throughout
campus. Parking enforcement. Patrol all campus parking areas on a
regular schedule and ensure compliance with accessibility parking
plans. Ticket cars in parking areas that are blocking thoroughfares
or fire zones and facilitate access to mechanical or towing
services as needed. Provide accessibility and evening safety
transports. Enforce campus access control procedures. Complete
daily log entries providing detailed information on all incidents.
Maintain first aid proficiency requirements. Assist faculty, staff,
students, and guests in basic first aid as needed. Contact
emergency medical personnel when necessary. Deliver excellent
customer service to Wagner College community members, visitors and
guests. QUALIFICATIONS: Work Experience: Knowledge of security and
law enforcement procedures and functions. 3-5 years of experience
in a similar capacity, preferably in a school environment
Education: High School diploma or equivalent Bachelor’s degree in
Criminal Justice, or related field, preferred
Certifications/Licenses: NYS Security Guard License NYS Driver’s
License Fire Safety Guard certifications Desired Work Traits:
Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to prepare legible and accurate incident reports.
Proficient in use of e-mail. Must be a team-player, able to work
intuitively and independently. Strong organizational skills for
multi-tasking and prioritizing responsibilities as situations arise
in fast paced environment Demonstrated computer experience with
Microsoft Office Suite; proficient with Excel
Communication/Interpersonal Skills: Proficiency and compliance with
radio communication procedure. Ability to communicate politely and
effectively with the general public. Excellent interpersonal and
communication skills; able to engage diverse groups and work across
campus populations, including and not limited to, staff, faculty,
students, and the general public. Tact and diplomacy. SPECIAL
CONSIDERATIONS If hired, employee must be or become a member of the
Security Officers Union, Local One, and will be subject to the
terms of the collective bargaining agreement between the union and
Wagner College. Black-out dates apply for the following events:
Orientation, Move-In, Move-Out, Commencement, Admitted Students
Days, and Homecoming. Nothing in this job description restricts
