The teams work together to assist the Chancellor in serving the largest school system in the country, composed of approximately 1 million students and ensure that parents, students, and all New York City communities have enhanced opportunities for support with a focus on family empowerment, community support and wellness and language access for New York City Public Schools (NYCPS). Improved cooperative relationships with parents, superintendents, principals, teachers and stakeholders in support of public-school students and families help to advance student achievement and empower authentic voice and feedback to NYCPS.The Translation Project Coordinator manages the translation process of various documents into foreign languages to ensure effective communication with Limited-English-Proficient (LEP) parents and communities. The role is responsible for tracking project progress, assigning resources, maintaining project records, and ensuring high-quality translations. This includes managing the typesetting phase, conducting reviews and ensuring accessibility standards are met. Performs related work.Reports to: Translation Operations CoordinatorDirect Reports: N/AKey Relationships: NYCPS, OLA internal teams and staff, and contractual external language service providers.Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage assigned translation requests from NYCPS central offices and schools, ensuring timely and accurate delivery.
  • Maintain and monitor project tracking records to ensure successful project execution, timelines, and resource allocation.
  • Identify, assign, and manage translator resources, making strategic decisions to meet project requirements and deadlines.
  • Log translation requests into databases and tracking systems, prepare files for the translations, complete the quality control process, provide final eye reviews, and archive finalized projects for future reference.
  • Manage the typesetting phase of translation projects, ensuring that formatting meets the required standards and specifications.
  • Coordinate reviews of translated materials to ensure translation services meet high standards.
  • Transfer translated text into designated systems, such as Microsoft Forms, Alchemer, and other platforms, while preserving formatting and consistency.
  • Prepare documents for delivery, including restricted Word files and/or fillable forms, and accessibility verification and remediation to ensure translated content is properly structured for distribution and use.
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with NYCPS central offices, schools and contracted vendors to ensure smooth collaboration and effective communication.Qualification Requirements:Minimum
    • High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
    • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.PlusIn addition to meeting the minimum requirements, individuals must have two additional years of the experience described in "1" above.Preferred
      • Experience in the field of translation and/or interpretation.
      • Self-starter with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
      • A thorough and proven understanding of NYCPS's administrative policies.
      • Ability to function and meet aggressive deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
      • Proficient in MS Office 365 applications.
      • Excellent communication, presentation and writing skills.
      • Strong logistical and long-term planning experience.
