Job Description:

Incumbent repairs, inspects, lubricates, installs, and troubleshoots all air conditioning, refrigeration and ventilation equipment at the medical center. Will also be responsible for heating systems in centrally controlled systems. Some examples of the types of equipment would include household and commercial refrigerators, water coolers, ice machines, window and central AC systems and chiller systems. Incumbent installs all necessary piping and tubing for assigned systems and equipment. Also is responsible for all wiring and control circuits within the system.Incumbent uses refrigerants and refrigeration oils within the scope of his work. Incumbent is responsible for observing all safe trade practices and handling all tools and material in a safe manner. Takes part in the maintenance and repair of steam distribution systems, water treatment systems, sewage ejection systems, medical and dental air and vacuum systems emergency generator general maintenance and repairs. Incumbent is subject to emergency callbacks. Must have current universal refrigerant license as required by 40 CFR, Part 82, Subpart F in order to perform the duties of the position. Knowledge of air-conditioning and refrigeration systems used in a medical center such as window a/c units, chiller systems, water coolers, ice machines, package a/c systems, split a/c systems, low temperature freezer units, cascade freezer units, electronic precipitators, dietetic equipment (medium temperature refrigeration equipment and walk-in boxes). Knowledge of test equipment for a/c refrigeration troubleshooting such as gauge manifold, multivoltage meters, vacuum pumps, charging cylinders, sling-psychorometers, and refrigerant leak detectors. Ability to use schematics, blue prints and wiring diagrams. Knows principles of air-conditioning and refrigeration such as air distribution, heat transfer, component parts of systems, and automatic solid-state controls. Knowledge of electricity to be capable of installing and connecting all types of equipment to a proper electrical service. Keeps informed of all methods of a/c and refrigeration and electrical maintenance. Knowledge of all types of mechanical and electrical equipment used in centralized refrigeration and air conditioning plants.Incumbent determines priorities, nature and extent of repairs needed, and independently completes work. Performs equipment tests, determines parts needed, and arranges for parts to be ordered, if necessary. Work is not reviewed in progress or upon completion.
